Charlie Bird to light five candles of hope on Reek summit

Former RTÉ journalist Charlie Bird has stated there are no words to express his thanks for the thousands of people who are supporting the Climb with Charlie fundraising event all over the country and abroad next Saturday.

He stated: "When I get to the top of Croagh Patrick on Saturday, I will be lighting five candles of hope for everyone.

"And shine a light of hope wherever you are."

He continued: "We are just days away from the event on Saturday.

"We have already raised three quarters of a million euro (for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association and Pieta House).

"Every day I cry now. I have been told it is one of the symptoms of my MND.

"But much of my tears are because of the love I am feeling from everyone across the country."

In another tweet, Mr. Brid has expressed thanks to Adrian from McGing Taxi and Minibus Service, Westport, for making sure all of his family and friends get to the Reek for the big climb on Saturday.

"Another powerful example of extending the hand of friendship from the people of Westport," he added.

Recently, his former colleagues at RTÉ joined with singer Michael English to record 'Shine A Light' as part of the Climb with Charlie fundraising initiative.
