Mayo Cancer Support pay tribute to John Tiernan on his passing
A warm tribute has been paid to John Tiernan, Doughmakone, Louisburgh, whose death has taken place in the peaceful surroundings of the Mayo Hospice.
In a tribute, Mayo Cancer Support, Rock Rose House, Castlebar, said it was with a heavy heart its members learned of the untimely death of a dear friend, John Tiernan.
It continued: "John was vice-chairperson for the board of directors of Mayo Cancer Support for many years contributing so much of his time and effort for the good of others.
"As well as showing his true dedication to the organisation in his role as a director, John was the main organiser of the annual Greenway Cycle for over 10 years and successfully raised substantial funds for Mayo Cancer Support down through the years.
"We will be forever grateful for his enthusiasm and goodwill and most of all his commitment to helping so many people affected by a cancer diagnosis.
"John always went above and beyond to help those going through their own difficult journeys to give them comfort in times of distress.
"He was one of life's true gentlemen, kind, caring and honourable. He always had a smile on his face and such a positive outlook on life.
