Council decision to reject plans for 25-house Castlebar estate upheld

PLANS for a 25-house estate in Garryduff, Castlebar, have been rejected by An Bord Pleanála.

This upholds a decision of Mayo County Council to refuse planning to developers G&M McConway Limited.

The council's decision was based on flooding and layout and design of the project.

Glenfort residents also outlined their concerns about flooding and open space provision in the development.

Other individual observations were made highlighting in particular flood issues in the area.

In the appeal, the developers set out how they had dealt with the flood risk and would take over maintenance of a local culvert and upgrade it.

No house was proposed to be built in an area identified as being at risk of flooding and the proposed works would not exacerbate the flooding issue highlighted by third parties in their submissions.

The appeals board agreed with its inspector's finding that the council's decision be upheld and refused planning permission.
