Council has no residential land zoned in Westport

MAYO County Council doesn't own any land zoned for housing in the Westport electoral area.

That is a 'startling' place to be in, commented local Councillor Peter Flynn.

A special meeting took place to discuss the housing situation in the west Mayo area. Afterwards, at a full council meeting, Councillor Flynn said there isn't one acre that is council-owned on which you could build a house between Newport, Westport and Louisburgh.

He has asked the chief executive for a response to the situation in his management report next month.

"It is a serious situation and it needs to be addressed immediately," he stated.
