Paving audit needed in county town

AN audit of the cobble locking and tactile paving around Castlebar is needed. Some of the cobbles around the town are loose and people are tripping, Councillor Ger Deere told a municipal district meeting.

Recently a lady fell on the tactile paving coming from Lough Lannagh towards Aldi, where it had sunk, and she broke a tooth.

There are issues with paving being raised in some locations and sinking in others and an audit is required, he said.

Councillor Blackie Gavin described the paths at Davitt Terrace as a 'disgrace'. There were also issues on Lucan Street.

He said he walked on one slab and it topped up by 45 degrees.

The need for a footpath on the Westport Road out to Shaws was also raised again by Councillor Donna Sheridan.

She was told it can be looked at as part of the active travel plan discussions.
