€37,218 is allocated to promote Gaelic games in 14 Mayo Gaeltacht school

A grant of up to €37,218 has been allocated to the Connacht GAA Council to enable them to expand the Gaelic Games Programme to schools in the Mayo Gaeltacht, Deputy Michael RIng has confirmed.

Fifteen schools involved in the implementation of the policy for Gaeltacht education in north and west Mayo will be able to benefit from the programme.

Deputy Michael Ring stated: “This programme is very positive in that it further supports the schools in their efforts to promote the Irish language”.

“Under the programme, instructors will visit participating schools to provide football and hurling sessions - administered through Irish, to attendees of the schools concerned”.

The following are details of the schools that will be able to benefit from the programme:

Primary

Eachléim, 1 hour per week

Corr Chloch, 1 hour per week

Poll a tSomais, 1 hour per week

Ros Dumhach, 1 hour per week

Gleann na Muaigh, 1 hour per week

Ceathrú Thaidhg,1 hour per week

Dumha Thuama, 1 hour per week

Bun a Choire, 1 hour per week

Sáile, 1 hour per week

Tóin Ré Gaoth, 1 hour per week

Post-Primary Schools

Meanscoil Mhuire, 1 hour 15 mins per week

Coláiste Bhreandain, 1 hour 15 mins per week

Coláiste Chomáin, 1 hour 15 mins per week

Coláiste Phobail Acla, 1 hour 15 mins per week
