Golf society secretary scores a hole in one on Mayo course

At the first official outing in two years, Tolster's Golf Society secretary John Coyne scored a hole in one at Castlebar Golf Club.

It came on the difficult par three on hole five at the parkland course, and there was a great turnout on Thursday last to cheer John on.

Everyone was excited to get the society back up and running and the course was in brilliant condition, proving a great challenge to all in attendance.

John was the talk of the day, however, with his hole in one, and everyone was delighted for him because of his efforts over the last 12 years in making Tolster's Golf Society possible.

There was some strong scorecards back at Tolster's Bar in Castlebar later in the evening, with three players in close contention for the first win of the season. All participants received a warm welcome and treated were to a beautiful meal and presentation.

John Cafferkey took first place, followed closely by Gerry Walsh in second and Paraic Lynskey in third. The visitors' prize went to Mike Flannelly with the best score out of all the visitors on the day.

Tolster's Golf Society is always open to new members and loves to see visitors from all around the world join for an outing or two. The next one is to Mulranny on Thursday, May 5 (tee times 11 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.). All enquires can be made to Tolster's Bar on Spencer Street, Castlebar.
