Mayo county crest to be reinstated in council chamber

THE county crest is to be restored to its rightful place behind the cathaoirleach in the council chamber at Áras an Chondae.

Its reinstatement was raised by Councillor Blackie Gavin at the monthly meeting of mayo County Council who said it had been taken down and 'fired on the ground', which was 'disgraceful'.

If he came into the chamber again and found it down on the ground he wouldn't be staying for meetings, he told management.

The chief executive said the crest was on the wall until very recently.

Works have been ongoing in the chamber - a number of ceiling panels were also removed where teleconferencing equipment is being installed.

The crest, Councillor Gavin was assured, will be going back up soon.
