The Mayo Under 15 team that beat Roscommon in round one of the Hibernia Cup yesterday.

Lovely hurling from a number of Mayo teams

The Mayo senior, Under 17 and Under 15 teams all secured great victories on the fields of London, Leitrim and Bekan yesterday afternoon.

First up, the seniors built on their victory away to Wicklow last week with a win over London in Ruislip, making it two from three in the Christy Ring Cup.

A strong Mayo finish to the first half, capped by Shane Boland’s well-taken goal, saw the visitors take a 1-16 o 0-6 lead into the break.

Conor Byrne pulled a goal back for the home side in the second half, but it was only when Donal Hannon drilled a free through a crowded goalmouth that London looked like ruffling Mayo’s feathers.

Jonathan McCarthy immediately followed it up with a superb score and suddenly the Exiles were back to within five (1-21 to 2-13).

But the game was already in added time by this stage and Kenny Feeney’s point helped Mayo see the game out as it finished 1-22 to 2-13.

Mayo, who suffered 4-11 to 1-10 defeat to London in Division 2B of the league in February, were able to call upon Keith Higgins and St. Jude’s duo Ger and Joe McManus this time around, but it was Loughrea clubman Joe Mooney who would prove the star of the show for the visitors with an outstanding display.

Elsewhere, it was a case of putting to right the wrongs of the previous week for the Mayo Under 17s in the Celtic Challenge as they returned to Glencar/Manorhamilton GAA Club's grounds, this time to face the Red Hands of Tyrone.

The scene of Mayo's last-gasp defeat to Donegal last weekend, this time around Mayo put in a better performance, pulling clear in the end to win by eight on a scoreline of 3-11 to 3-3.

Finally, the Mayo Under 15 hurlers got their All-Ireland Hibernia Cup campaign off to a strong start with a round one win over Roscommon in the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence, Bekan. The final score was Mayo 4-17, Roscommon 1-15.

The side now travel to Dublin on Saturday, May 21, to take on Wicklow in Abbottstown in round two. The side was captained yesterday by Niall Peoples (Ballina Stephenites).
