Residents frustrated by Mayo match day double parking

RESIDENTS in a housing estate were denied access to their homes due to football fans parking up for Sunday's Mayo v Galway match in MacHale Park.

Verges were also damaged where some supporters pulled in on green areas along the road.

The issue at Maryland was raised by Councillor Donna Sheridan at a Castlebar Municipal District meeting this week.

Supporters, she said, had blocked people getting into their homes when parking their cars there and verges were dug up.

One resident who has an illness could not get out of their house during the game because of double parking.

They needed to have the traffic wardens out there on match days, Councillor Sheridan told council management, asking whose responsibility is it.

Management are to speak with the GAA and gardaí to see what can be done.
