New building for west Mayo school approved to progress

HOLY Trinity National School in Westport has received approval to progress under the Large Scale Capital Programme.

A new school building will be provided and the project will include one classroom SEN base, four mainstream classrooms, with the demolition of an existing building and construction of a new one, Deputy Michael Ring has confirmed.

Commented Deputy Ring: “Holy Trinity National School is currently housed in a 230-year-old building in the centre of Westport. Although they were approved a new building, delays occurred when the department proposed that a second primary school would be located on this site. This proposal has now been abandoned.

“I have raised this matter on the floor of the Dáil and with the Minister for Education on numerous occasions and I am delighted to see that approval has been given for this project to finally proceed.”
