New footbridge planned in south Mayo town

A NEW footbridge is to be installed on the Kilmaine Road in Ballinrobe.

Progress on the project was confirmed by local Councillor Patsy O'Brien on his social media today.

He commented: “According to officials of Mayo County Council, consultants have been appointed for the scheme design, which will be done this year, with work to start on a new footbridge on the Kilmaine Road in Ballinrobe in 2023.

“I have raised the issue of the urgent need for a footbridge past the Railway Hotel and leading to Flanagan Park and Lakeside Sports and Fitness Centre on numerous occasions over the past two years.

“Following two notices of motion at our area meetings as well as highlighting the issue within the media, we have now received a similar reply to one I received three months ago but am hoping that, as a matter of urgency, this project will be brought to fruition for the good of our young and older people in the town.”
