Move to address N5 noise concerns
A MEETING is being sought with Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) to address concerns about noise at a stretch of the new N5 outside Castlebar.
A three-metre sound barrier is being sought to the rear of Baloor estate in Breaffy.
The barrier currently proposed is too low, said Councillor Cyril Burke, who has also asked for a noise reduction surface on the carriageway at the location.
That surface will be provided.
A severe impact affecting properties has been identified at the location, Councillor Burke told a Castlebar Municipal District meeting.
The barrier being proposed was only one metre high. A higher barrier or an embankment that people could then plant on their own side would absorb some of the noise, he suggested.
He received the support of his elected colleagues that they would talk to TII to have something done to mitigate against the noise before the road is finished.
