Passing of Achill Island Coast Guard volunteer is deeply regretted

Achill Island Coast Guard has paid tribute to Tommy McNamara, The Hill, Pollagh, Keel, Achill, whose death has taken place.

It stated: "The Achill Island Coast Guard family are deeply saddened at the untimely death of our friend and colleague, Tommy McNamara.

"We will miss Tommy more than words could ever express and our thoughts and sympathy are with his family and friends.

"Go raibh Suaimhneas Síorthaí air."

The deceased was also a coach with Achill GAA Club's Under-14 squad.

In a tribute, the club said: "Tommy was a coach for many years, and whether it was for CLG Acla events or the local national school competitions involving his three beloved boys, Tommy was always at the end of the phone, willing to answer the call.

"Away from the field of play, Tommy was a Trojan worker and could always be relied upon to put his shoulder to the wheel in times of crisis.

"Never one to miss an opportunity to exchange a bit of banter, his words of encouragement to the young lads of Achill will live on for many a year.

"We pray for eternal peace for Tommy. We pray that his family may find the strength and courage to cope with their loss and the void that it leaves in their futures.
