Consultation opens on river enhancement plan in Moy catchment

STATUTORY consultation has opened on proposed works by the OPW on the Garracloon River Enhancement Plan in the Moy catchment.

The Garracloon River flows into the Deel River approximately 750m upstream of Lough Conn.

The proposed project aims to enhance spawning sites primarily for Atlantic salmon, but also for biodiversity generally by improving habitat quality for species including otter, white-clawed crayfish, Brook Lamprey and Sea Lamprey.

Works proposed involve the construction of instream structures, the introduction of spawning gravel, creating pools and fencing sections of the channel.

An Appropriate Assessment Screening and Natura Impact Statement for the proposed Garracloon River Enhancement Plan has been prepared.

Submissions are invited from the public relating to the likely significant effects of the proposed works on the Moy River SAC.

Submissions will be accepted until June 8 at 5 p.m.
