More cashless meters and parking app planned for Castlebar

A PARKING app and cashless parking meters are required for Castlebar.

The matter was raised at the beginning of Covid by Councillor Ger Deere, who asked that people would have the option to pay by cash or card. However, he said, that has not happened.

Some of the existing meters are in a 'terrible state', he told a local area meeting. He had visitors recently who asked if the meters had come from the museum.

Councillor Deere also asked that a parking app be introduced for the county town.

District head Iarla Moran said six or seven cashless machines were bought last year and it's hoped to roll out more.

A parking app is in the pipeline. It will involve amending the parking by-laws and preparatory work is being done on that.
