Claremorris Musical Society – back in the habit
THE cast of Claremorris Musical Society will be returning to Claremorris Town Hall Theatre at the end of May with their 15th production, the fabulous Sister Act.
This really has been a labour of love as the society originally had to postpone the show dates due to the rise in Covid cases at the beginning of the year. Determined and fully committed, this dedicated team pushed on and have been busily rehearsing for their new show dates since before Christmas.
Claremorris and its surrounds will see the professionalism and energy associated with this award-winning society back with a bang from Thursday to Sunday, May 26 to 29, as a cast and crew of over 50 people prepare to get back to doing what they simply love to do.
The highly skilled and experienced production team of musical director Deirdre Lee and director Donna Ruane will be joined this year by the very talented choreographer and Galway girl, Claudia O’Sullivan. This will be Claudia’s first time working with CMS and she has loved being involved with such a lively and enthusiastic bunch.
This heart-warming ‘divine’ musical comedy of love and friendship really is a show that has something for everyone.
When disco diva Deloris Van Cartier witnesses a murder, she is put in protective custody in the one place the cops are sure she won't be found: a convent. Disguised as a nun, she finds herself at odds with both the rigid lifestyle and uptight Mother Superior.
Using her unique disco moves and singing talent to inspire the choir, Deloris breathes new life into the church and community but, in doing so, blows her cover.
Soon, the gang is giving chase, only to find them up against Deloris and the power of her newly found sisterhood.
Filled with powerful music, outrageous dancing, hilarious twists and a truly moving story of the power of love, Sister Act will leave audiences breathless. A sparkling tribute to the universal power of friendship, Sister Act is reason to rejoice.
Taking on these memorable roles, CMS is delighted to welcome several new faces to the cast this year, alongside some more familiar ones too.
The principal roles will be played by the following: Deloris Van Cartier - Marilyn Bane, Mother Superior - Vivienne Lee, Sr. Mary Robert - Nicole Scott, Monsignor O’Hara - Ciarán Kiely, Sr. Mary Patrick - Maria McNulty, Curtis - David Alexander, Eddie - Joff Manning, Sr. Mary Lazarus - Suzanne Garvey, T.J. - Gearóid Herraghty, Pablo - Gerard Scott, Joey - Ronan Egan, Tina - Karen Ronane, Michelle - Mary Dempsey, and Ernie - Michael Goulding.
CMS is delighted to be returning to tread the boards of Claremorris Town Hall Theatre and are hoping that audiences will fill the plush, tiered seats of this fantastic venue and raise the roof with laughter and cheer at the return of the much loved musical society.
As always, CMS would not be in a position to produce a show of this standard without the support of the local shops, restaurants, businesses and companies who so generously sponsor the society every year. As a voluntary, community-based, not for profit group, fundraising is a constant challenge and they are so thankful and appreciative of all the support received.
The show opens on Thursday, May 26, and continues Friday, May 27, Saturday, May 28, closing on Sunday, May 29. Tickets are on sale at a cost of €20 per adult/€16 per child, with a reduced rate of €16 for everyone on the closing night.
Tickets are available by contacting Claremorris Town Hall Theatre, www.townhall.ie, or from any cast member.
