Old Mayo street closing for 11 days to pave way for major works

Tucker Street in Castlebar is to close for 11 days next month to facilitate major works.

It will be shut from from 9.30 a.m. on Monday, June 13, until 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 23.

The works involve the installation of drainage channels and bollards along the existing kerb edge.

The project will see the level of the road being raised flush with the path to facilitate outdoor dining.

This will be carried out for a length of approximately 40 metres from the New Antrim Street junction.

This will provide a level surface outside all premises participating in outdoor dining on Tucker Street.

Traffic diversions will be in place for the duration of the works.

The works have been welcomed by Councillor Ger Deere.

He stated: "Last year’s outdoor dining initiative was a huge success and these works will enhance the experience for diners as well as the safety of the staff carrying plates and drinks.

"This is another great step in providing good outdoor dining options in the town centre and I am looking forward to supporting these businesses over the summer."
