Mayo launch of Going to My Father’s House

THE Emeritus Professor of History at the University of Manchester returned to the Joyce Country to launch his latest book.

A large audience turned out at the Irish History Bookshop in Cong to hear Professor Patrick Joyce talk about his book, Going to My Father’s House.

Part memoir and part social history, the book begins with Patrick’s recollection of travelling from London to the townland of Kilbride in the Joyce Country - the location of his father’s house.

His father emigrated in the 1930s and the book begins with Patrick's reflections on his childhood trips back to his father’s home and his connections to Ireland.

Patrick was introduced by Breandan Mac Suibhne of NUI Galway and a lively discussion followed Patrick’s reading.

The talk is part of a series of book launches and talks hosted by The Irish History Bookshop. Information about future events is available at https://irishhistorybookshop.ie/.
