Mayo mourns passing of Michael Farrington
He stood in two elections in the county
The death has taken place of Michael Farrington, Park Road, Kiltimagh.
He died unexpectedly yesterday, with his loving family at his side, in the exceptional care of staff at the Mayo University Hospital following an illness borne with great dignity and strength.
The deceased was widely known throughout the county.
He stood as a Renua Party candidate in the 2016 general election in the Mayo constituency.
Michael also contested the local elections in the Castlebar Municipal District in 2019.
Apart from his love of politics, the deceased was a keen follower of the Mayo senior football squad.
Devoted husband and best friend to his beloved wife Maria (neé Griffin, Irishtown) and loving father to Rebecca, Aislinn and Emmet, he is also survived by his sisters Christina and Anne (Sligo), brother John (New York), grandchildren Cameron, Cael and Luca, sons-in-law Paul and Fraser, and soon to be daughter-in-law Aoife, nieces, nephews, relatives, good neighbours, and many friends.
Deepest sympathy is extended to the family on their loss.
A member of Mayo County Council, Councillor Michael Kilcoyne, said he was very sad to learn of Michael's passing.
"He was a very honourable and decent man who took immense interest in the betterment of his community," he stated.
Reposing at the family home on Thursday evening from 5 to 8 p.m.
Removal on Friday morning at 11.40 a.m. to arrive at the Church of the Holy Family, Kiltimagh, for Funeral Mass at 12 noon.
Burial takes place immediately afterwards in Kilkinure Cemetery, Kiltimagh.
