Mayo open Gaynor Cup campaign with a win
MAYO opened their Gaynor Cup campaign with a hard earned 2-0 victory over Clare this evening at the University of Limerick.
It took Mayo a while to settle but they had worked the opposition's 'keeper on a number of occasions before a Clare defender handled the ball on the line following an excellent Amy Murphy corner. The referee awarded a penalty and showed the defender the red card.
Ursula Shaughnessy hammered home the spot-kick.
In the second half the Mayo girls managed the game very well before adding a second goal through Alana Kelly in the 48th minute.
In an excellent all round team performance Amy Murphy, Ursula Shaughnessy, Roise Burke and Kate Byrne were best.
