Mayo author launches 'Meet Your Author' online competition

Mayo author Katie Lally, who writes and illustrates children’s books has launched a really exciting social media competition, to win a ‘Meet the Author’ visit to your local national school.

Families and friends of national school pupils all across the county, can simply enter a child’s class and school name as a comment on Katie Lally’s “Meet The Author” competition post on any of her social media platforms.

Before national schools break for the summer holidays, Katie will visit the school of one lucky student to read an extract from her book ‘A Spectacular Story from the Future’ to their class or school assembly. After the reading she will then engage in an interactive questions and answers session with the children too.

The winning student will receive a signed copy of the book and photo opportunity with the author. Their entire class will enjoy a reading by Katie Lally and a questions and answers session with her too.

Parents, families, friends, teachers and communities all across the county are encouraged to do their bit for their local national school and take part in the competition today.

It’s really easy to enter, simply follow Katie Lally on Facebook or Instagram and add a comment with the class name and or the school name you would like to enter and you’re in with the chance to win.

Entries close at midnight on Sunday, June 19, and the winner will be announced on Monday, June 20, with the visit taking place later that week before the school breaks for the holidays! This exciting prize will be the perfect ending to the long academic year for one lucky pupil, their class and school so don’t delay, log on and enter today!

The winner will be drawn from a hat, the old-fashioned way and once permission has been granted and details arranged with the school, Katie will announce the result online.

Speaking of the novel competition Katie Lally commented: “I am so grateful to everyone in my home county who has supported me on this journey and the idea came about as I wanted to give something back to say thank you in a meaningful way.

"The timing made sense to me as I would like to use the opportunity to encourage national school going children to keep on reading throughout the holidays, to consider joining their local library or even start writing and drawing themselves and what better way to share that message than in person!”

Quick to encourage entries Lally said: “Although the winner will be essentially chosen at random, the more entries made on behalf of a particular pupil, class or school, the more chances that student, class or school has of winning the prize, so get those comments in and I look forward to meeting lots of young readers in Mayo very soon!”
