Road safety concerns on Ballinrobe street

THERE are safety concerns on Abbey Street in Ballinrobe.

Some residents are walking out on the street where there is no footpath.

It's not a simple matter but something needs to be done to address safety, Councillor Michael Burke told a municipal district meeting.

A serious accident occurred recently on the street where a vehicle hit a parked car.

Some motorists are travelling too fast on what is a narrow laneway.

Councillor Burke asked that the council would look at the street, which needs some consideration and won't be simple to address.

Councillor Damien Ryan agreed it won't be straightforward but they needed to identify options to see what can be done.

Also in Ballinrobe, Councillor Ryan asked for an update on the footbridge on the Kilmaine Road.

It is an essential safety measure, he said, and he asked the road design office to make every effort to get reports and designs done in a timely fashion.

He was supported by Councillor Burke who said it has been on the agenda for the last few years now.
