Renewed call for action on 'deadly piece' of Mayo road
An elected member of Mayo County Councl has called on Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) to make funds available to extend the footpath from Esker Pines housing estate to the Devlis Cottages on the N83 Ballyhaunis - Cloonfad road.
Councillor John Cribben tabled a notice of motion on the matter before the monthly municipal district meeting - the third time he has made such a request for works at the location.
Councillor Cribben said a week doesn't go by that he doesn't receive representations from concerned residents.
He was very disappointed that he was having to raise it yet again with TII and he asked that they be made aware of his and the residents' frustrations.
“I fear there will be an accident or a fatality,” he warned.
The necessary funding has to be made available to carry out the works now.
His colleague Councillor Neil Cruise agreed that this was a 'deadly piece of road'.
