Up to €74,560 in funding is on its way to Mayo, thanks to the RTÉ Toy Show Appeal.

Five Mayo charities benefit from funds raised in RTÉ Toy Show appeal

A total of €74,560 in funding on its way to five organisations in Mayo as a result of the RTÉ Toy Show Appeal last November.

The RTÉ Toy Show Appeal and the Community Foundation for Ireland announced today that over 1.1 million children and their families will benefit from donations raised.

Over a memorable weekend last November, an audience of 1.8 million viewers helped raise over €6.6 million to help change children’s lives for the better.

The monies raised will now be used to support the work of registered children’s charities and community groups across the island of Ireland. 154 charities are to receive grants, up from 55 last year, and for the first time, at least one project in every county will benefit.

Over the past number of months charities working at local, regional, and national levels were invited to apply for a grant under three thematic pillars: addressing essential needs from food to medical equipment, improving well-being including hospital and medical care, mental health supports and grief counselling, and creativity and play.

The five Mayo organisation to benefit from the donations are as follows:

• Claremorris Family Resource Centre, which provides health and well-being services and nutrition programmes for children, will receive €5,000.

• Teen-Turn, which delivers learning opportunities in STEM and digital literacy to teen girls from underserved areas in a co-creating environment where collaborative and critical thinking skills are honed and educational participation supported, will receive €18,000.

• Tacú Ballinrobe Family Resource Centre, which will use its funding to develop a Social Prescribing Framework to address the mental health of young people and to secure funding to roll it out nationally, will receive €40,000

• Foróige Connect, a youth development organisation, will receive €5,000.

•Westport Family Resource Centre, which will ensure that children’s mental health and wellbeing is supported through access to affordable and timely services, will receive €6,560.
