Reports emerge of ‘Eucharist miracle’ in east Mayo parish
Reports have emerged on social media of what is described as a 'Eucharist miracle' occurring in an east Mayo parish.
It is claimed that the miracle occurred in the aftermath of a Eucharistic Minister accidentally dropping a consecrated host to the floor whilst administering Holy Communion during a recent Sunday Mass at St. Joseph’s Church in Aghamore.
It is further stated a priest placed the host into a small bowl of water to allow it to dissolve and, after checking it sometime later, he discovered the water was blood coloured.
He added some more water and then later saw that the host had taken on the appearance of bloody flesh tissue.
A photograph showing a blood-coloured host in a glass bowl is attached to a number of posts on Facebook while there has also been commentary on YouTube.
Suggestions that the host is to be analysed by the Tuam Archdiocese remain unconfirmed.
The story has attracted a fair degree of interest with many respondents seeing it as a sign from Jesus.
Efforts to contact Aghamore parish for a comment have proved unsuccessful to date.
A spokesperson for the Tuam Archdiocese said they were aware of the situation in Aghamore but it was not a unique event and has happened previously throughout the world.
The spokesperson described it as a natural phenomena and a decision may in due course be made to further investigate the Aghamore claims.
