Mayo community first responders receive major funding boost
Three Mayo TDs have welcomed funding of over €330,000 for community first responders across County Mayo under measure 2 of the CLÁR programme.
The funding will be used to purchase vehicles designed to transport people who have mobility issues or people being treated for cancer.
The Mayo projects being supported are Grainne Uaile Sub Aqua Club €25,600; Western Care Association €115,591; River Moy Search and Rescue €96,185.60; Enable Ireland Mayo €46,935.81 and Irish Community Air Ambulance €45,978.
Deputy Alan Dillon stated: “Disability services, air ambulances and sub-aqua groups are also to receive funding, we owe an enormous amount to our first responder communities, these community-based volunteer organisations perform life-saving work.
"This support will mean that if someone gets into difficulty, these groups will be better prepared to help them."
Deputy Dara Calleary said: “This is great news for five very active community groups in Mayo who have been successful in seeking funding towards the purchase of vehicles designed to transport people ho have mobility issues or people being treated for cancer."
Deputy Michael Ring stated: “These organisations play a vital role in their communities. I am delighted that their work is being supported by this funding announcement. Our rural communities, in particular rely on our community based first responders and voluntary search and rescue organisations.
"I know that these vehicles will make a real difference in the service they provide and I would like to thank them for their good work."
