Mayo State Solicitor to be appointed judge

THE State Solicitor for Mayo, Vincent Deane, has been nominated for appointment as a District Court judge.

At its meeting today, the government agreed to nominate Mr. Deane for appointment as an Ordinary Judge of the District Court by the President of Ireland.

The vacancy in the District Court will arise following the retirement of Judge Conal M. Gibbons on August 19.

The government has taken the necessary steps to formally advise President Higgins of the nomination in accordance with constitutional practice.

Mr. Deane, a native of Erris, has served as State Solicitor for Co. Mayo since 2010 having previously been with the Chief Prosecution Solicitors Division at the Office of the DPP.
