Official launch of Diaspóra na Gaeltachta website
THE new website Diaspóra na Gaeltachta will be officially launched tomorrow (Saturday), Lá Fhéile Mhic Dara (the Feast Day of St. Macdara), in the Emigrant Commemoration Centre, Carna.
The website has been developed by Údarás na Gaeltachta in partnership with the Emigrant Commemoration Centre, in recognition of the value of the Gaeltacht diaspora around the world.
The website, https://diasporanagaeltachta.ie/, will be launched by Údarás na Gaeltachta chief executive Mícheál Ó hÉanaigh.
The site contains lots of information and links on the three distinct regions - Tuar Mhic Éadaigh (Tourmakeady), Acaill (Achill) and Iorras (Erris) - that make up the Mayo Gaeltacht.
Speaking of the importance of the website, Mr. Ó hÉanaigh said: “It is fitting that we launch this website on the day that traditionally those who have left this area to go abroad return home. Furthermore, we are happy that we can gather for this occasion in the Emigrant Commemoration Centre, dedicated to the commemoration of those who left Ireland and to the celebration of their descendants throughout the world.”
The Gaeltacht diaspora is an important part of the 2021-2025 Strategy of Údarás na Gaeltachta, he added, which recognises the value of the Gaeltacht diaspora connection for networking opportunities, tourism, attracting people back to Gaeltacht communities from abroad, and inward investment.
