Appeal to review bye-laws to allow for coffee unit at Mayo lake

THE licencing of an area at Lough Lannagh in Castlebar to allow for a mobile coffee unit could be looked at under an evaluation of the Castlebar casual trading bye-laws.

Councillor Ger Deere is asking Mayo County Council to allow a licence for one mobile coffee operator to trade in the vicinity of the popular amenity, particularly over the summer.

He has been told a licence is not allowed as it is not a designated trading area.

Speaking at the monthly Castlebar Municipal District meeting, Councillor Deere said during the pandemic, Lough Lannagh was a life-saver for a lot of people, along with our beaches and places like Moorehall, which have these units.

A lot of people have said they would like to see a coffee unit at Lannagh. It was an ideal attraction to have there, particularly in the summer.

Councillor Deere said Lough Lannagh is 'an experience' and this would add to that experience.

They should look at amending the bye-laws, he suggested.

He was told the whole licenced trading area could be reviewed and decided on.

There is a statutory process to be gone through.
