Breaffy sewerage scheme extension queried

THE position on the extension of the Breaffy sewerage scheme has been queried by local Councillor Cyril Burke.

He highlighted the need for the extra phases to be progressed as Castlebar town moves out towards Breaffy and beyond the new road.

Phases one and two of the approved scheme were completed, with the others to follow if 75% of people signed up to get connected.

Councillor Burke told a Castlebar Municipal District meeting he was 99% sure that more than 75% had signed up.

He asked that the municipal district would write to Irish Water requesting an update on where they are with the next phases of the scheme.

There are people in the area who have issues with sewerage treatment, he added.

The need for an extension of the sewer at Moneen and Aughaluskey was also highlighted by Councillor Martin McLoughlin.
