The central white lines have been causing confusion.

Couriers being sent on a long route due to white lines

DELIVERY drivers to homes on the Westport Road in Castlebar are being sent on a roundabout journey to get to their destination.

Solid line markings are in place at Ballynaboll and Ballymacrath, which motorists cannot cross. It is permissible to cross to access a private residence.

However, couriers are being directed down the road to turn and come back when they enter Eircodes into their devices for deliveries.

The 'bizarre' situation was highlighted by Councillor Ger Deere at the monthly Castlebar Municipal District meeting. People can cross the markings for their own personal use, but couriers were being sent up the road to turn, he said.

It appeared that they weren't entitled to cross the line as it wasn't for personal use.

Senior engineer Ann Sweeney clarified that you can cross a solid white line to go into a private residence.
