Green light for major extension at Mayo school
Glencastle National School, Bunnahowen, Ballina, has proceeded to tender for an extension and refurbishment of the existing main school building along with associated site works.
Welcoming the news, Mayo TD Alan Dillon stated: "The investment will see the construction of single storey extensions to the existing building consisting of a new administration facility to the front and a special needs education facility to the rear.
"Alterations and energy upgrade works will also take place within the existing school building, and the plans also include the installation of a replacement wastewater treatment system, car parking and a bus drop-off point.
"In 2021 the board of management had been given planning permission to remove roadside prefabricated accommodation and to demolish a rear standalone special needs education building.
"This is great news for the popular Ballina school. I wish school principal Catherine McIntyre, the board of management, staff and students every continued success for the future."
