Alert issued over 'scouting' for dogs activity in Mayo

AN animal charity in Mayo has issued an alert to pet owners about people out 'scouting' for dogs.

The warning was issued by Ballina-based North West SPCA over the bank holiday weekend.

In a social media post, they warned: 'Dog owners beware. It has been brought to our attention that people are scouting the area for dogs. These dogs, if picked up, will no doubt be sold in UK or used for breeding.

'If you have a dog please keep it indoors or confined.'

In the case reported to the SPCA, a van driver put a chalk X on an electricity box very near to where multiple dogs live.

North West SPCA is a non-profit organisation run entirely by volunteers. To follow and to support their work, see their Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/BallinaNWSPCA.
