North Mayo GAA club honours memory of former player with new tournament
Ballycastle GAA Club will honour the memory of former player and friend Colm Kenny on Sunday (August 14) with a new tournament for young players.
The Colm Kenny Cup tournament for primary schools will start at 1 p.m. in the home of Ballycastle GAA, Tom Langan Park – where a new clubhouse has been development and will be officially opened on the day as well.
Colm played for Ballycastle from his national school days right up to junior leve, winning a county minor title with the club and numerous north Mayo titles. He played minor football for Mayo in 1996, when the Green and Red reached the All-Ireland semi-final before losing to Kerry.
Sunday's event co-ordinators are Martin Tighe and David Carden, and teams will attend from Killala, Kilfian, Lacken, Cooneal and the hosts, Ballycastle. The trophies and medals have been sponsored by the Kenny family.
Meanwhile, at approximately 5 p.m. the club will unveil the new clubhouse, with a blessing by Fr. John Loftus, P.P., and the official opening performed by Deputy Michael Ring.
