Plans for investment in Mayo rural community are turned down

Plans to operate a food processing hall in a premises that has operated as a pub in Tooreen have been rejected by Mayo County Council.

There were a number of local submissions made to Mayo County Council arguing against the proposal.

They highlighted that the site is not designated for industry or enterprise.

There was also no traffic assessment and it was felt the development would impact negatively on the village.

Planners found the project would contravene the county development plan in that development along national roads is restricted outside the 60km/h zone unless of strategic importance.

Planners also felt there was an absence of detail on how the change of use would impact on local residential amenity.
