Violent aggravated burglary spreads fear across west

A violent aggravated burglary in Co. Roscommon yesterday has spread fear across the region.

A 94-year-old woman and her two sons were terrorised by a six-man gang during the incident at the house, which has an attached business premises.

One of the sons, a man in his mid-60s, was assaulted by the gang armed with screwdrivers and other weapons.

The aggravated burglary happened at around 1 a.m. yesterday when the masked gang broke into the house at Ballintubber, Co Roscommon.

It is reported the elderly woman and her sons were held hostage in one room while the rest of the property was ransacked.

The suspects stole a small amount of cash and some jewellery.

Gardaí from Castlerea, Co. Roscommon, are investigating the crime and no arrests made so far.

They have appealed to any person who was in the area of Ashpark, Ballintubber between 10.30 p.m. on Sunday night and 12.30 a. m. on Monday morning, to contact them.
