Mayo Under 15 hurlers capture the Peter O'Keefe Cup

Mayo's Under 15 hurlers captured the Peter O'Keefe Cup in Donegal this afternoon.

Two dominant displays over the home county in the semi-final and Armagh in the final.

By half-time in the semi-final against Donegal, Mayo already had one foot in the decider as they held a 5-7 to 0-2 lead. By full-time they had added eight more points to their tally to just one in reply as it finished 5-15 to 0-3.

Remarkably, Mayo put up an almost identical score in the final against Armagh to win easily.

They were already in command at the break, leading by 1-9 to 1-0, and by full-time the scoreboard read Mayo 5-16, Armagh 1-1.

Following the game, Donegal Hurling Board chairman Manus O'Donnell presented Mayo joint captains Matthew Delaney and Niall Peoples with the Peter O'Keefe Cup. O’Keefe was a tireless promoter of underage hurling in Donegal and Ulster.

Mayo reached the national finals today following five outstanding wins in the group stages. Backboned by players from Claremorris and Castlebar Mitchels, the team also features rising hurling stars from Westport, Caiseal Gaels, Ballina Stephenites, Tooreen and Ballyhaunis.

The team is managed by Adrian Hession, Sean Heneghan, Piaras Ó Raghallaigh, Richie Crinnigan, Michael Bolger and Lucian Brooks.
