Major extension to Mayo school now at planning stage

A planning application has been submitted to Mayo County Council for a major extension to Davitt College at Springfield in Castlebar.

The proposal consists of the construction of new classrooms and ancillary accommodation in five two-storey modular blocks, totalling 2,850 square metres in space.

The blocks will include 12 general classrooms, four specialist rooms, a special education needs suite, toilets and storage.

The application, by Mayo Sligo and Leitrim Education and Training Board, is also seeking approval for a new access road, car and bicycle parking spaces and an all-weather pitch.

When completed, Davitt College will be able to accommodate over 1,000 students.
