Mayo secondary schools proud of their students' exam achievements

"They came through with flying colours in the end"

Secondary schools across Mayo are reporting excellent results by their students in the Leaving Cert. examinations.

Incoming principal at Mount St. Michael, Claremorris, Ciarán Ryan, extended a heartfelt congratulations to all the outgoing Leaving Certificate students on what he described as their fantastic Leaving Certificate results.

Mr. Ryan said: “The wonderful results are a testament to the commitment, dedication and service of the teaching and non-teaching staff at Mount St. Michael."

The leaving certificate results this year at the Claremorris college were exceptional, with over 20% of students achieving in excess of 500 points.

A significant number of students achieved over 600 points.

The staff at Mount St Michael have wished all the Leaving Certificate students the best of luck on the next stage of their life journey.

Conor O' Reilly, principal of Davit College, Castlebar, said he was very happy with the results achieved by their 91 students who sat the Leaving Cert and the 15 who sat the Leaving Cert Applied.

Quite a number accomplished over 600 points and others in excess of 500.

"There were many H1 and H2 in the higher level subjects this year and that's very satisfying.

"It was great to see students dropping in to tell us how delighted they were.

"It's been a tough number of years for these students due to Covid-19 but they have come through with flying colours in the end.

"We wish them well in the third level courses they choose," he added.

Peadar Ó Tuathail, the newly-appointed principal of St. Joseph's Secondary School, Castlebar, described the results achieved by their students as outstanding.

"It speaks volumes for their hard work and commitment as well as reflecting exceptionally well on the dedication of the teaching staff and the former principal, Ms. Marian McCabe.

"We wish our graduates every success in the future," he stated.

Sean Burke, principal of St. Gerald's College, Castlebar, extended huge congratulations to the class of 2022 on a fantastic set of results!!

"Over 40% of the students in our LCA class received a distinction! This is a great achievement."

Two students - Conor Hughes and Ruairi Cronin - achieved top marks of 625 points.

"We are immensely proud of all our Leaving Cert. students and wish them the very best in their future endeavours in education and beyond," added Ms. Burke.
