Minister of State Peter Burke.

Are you listening to Mayo's call, Minister Burke?

by Auld Stock

PETER Burke, Minister of State for Housing, is certainly coming the big brother bit with Mayo County Council by ordering them not to construct houses along rural roads.

The Mayo councillors are being told they must close off large swathes of rural Mayo to house building.

This is nonsense, a load of bloody crap.

There are people who simply want to live in rural areas of County Mayo.

This is where ancestors have lived for generations.

There are people also, who have no connection with rural Ireland, but simply want to rear their children in a rural settting.

It is heartening to see our councillors taking up the cudgels and resisting the Government’s proposals in the strongest possible manner.

The move to ban housing in rural parts of Mayo is both stupid and ill-advised.

Those responsible for shutting off rural Mayo as a place to build houses and rear families are totally out of touch with rural Ireland

Those behind this madcap legislation should show a little common sense and immediately reverse the decision.

What we need in this matter is common sense not codology.

Are you listening, Mr. Burke?
