Mayo club beaten in AIG Minor Cup quarterfinals at Slieve Russell

The AIG Cups and Shields series began at PGA National Slieve Russell yesterday (Wednesday), where the weather didn’t dampen the spirits of players and their travelling supporters.

Unfortunately for Mayo representatives Westport, Ardee got the better of them as Bernie Breen, Angela Hand and Helen Reilly secured their three matches.

Elsewhere, Amanda Pollock, Rosie Watters and Vicky Kell were the point scorers for Greenacres in their defeat of Mallow, while Rockmount took a commanding win over Ballyneety and Cill Dara saw off Dublin’s Castle Golf Club.

The AIG Minor Cup semi-finals were held today (Thursday).

The Ardee v Westport result was as follows (Ardee names first): Annette Durnin lost to Mary-Kate Lonergan 4&3, Patricia Smyth lost to Mary Drumm 5&4, Bernie Breen beat Anne M. Kelly 4&3, Angela Hand beat Sarah Coyle 6&5, Helen Reilly beat Aine Kavanagh 4&3.
