No funding yet to progress Ballinrobe by-pass

NO funding has yet been allocated for a by-pass of Ballinrobe town.

Local councillors want to see progress on the project.

Councillor Damien Ryan raised the matter by way of a notice of motion at the September Claremorris/Swinford Municipal District meeting.

He asked Mayo County Council to provide an update as regards getting the Ballinrobe bypass firmly back on the agenda and what has been done since he last raised the matter. He also requested that a member with responsibility from the National Roads Design Office would attend their meeting.

In a written response, senior engineer Conrad Harley updated him: In 2020 the National Roads Office of Mayo County Council submitted an application to Transport Infrastructure Ireland in which it sought funding to carry out the necessary appraisal and justification of the need for a national road bypass of Ballinrobe.

This application remains with TII and to date no funding has been allocated for this project.
