Consultants appointed by Mayo County Council for Ballina Quay development

Minister of State Dara Calleary has welcomed confirmation that consultants have been appointed by Mayo County Council to establish the potential and finalise a development plan for The Quay in Ballina.

He said: “The development of The Quay in Ballina is a long-standing ambition of mine, of the Ballina Municipal District and of the wider community.

“Initial plans have been drawn up and initial funding has been secured. I am now pleased to report that progress has been made over the summer months with the appointment of Henchion + Reuter Architects as consultants.

“This is a very experienced team of consultants and discussions are to commence next week with relevant stakeholders, to include Ballina area councillors, Moy Valley Resources, Inland Fisheries Ireland, Fáilte Ireland, the Quay Maritime Museum Committee and other clubs/organisations based in the locality.”

Minister Calleary, a native of Ballina, has advised that any individual member of the public who wishes to make their opinions known can email him at dara.calleary@oireachtas.ie so that he can bring all ideas, proposals, etc, to the attention of the consultants.

He continued: “Recent developments such as the initiation of the Ballina Urban Adventure Hub (SUP and kayaking), which I was delighted to secure funding for from the Dormant Accounts Fund, has shown the potential that exits at The Quay.

“I am committed to delivering the funding from central government to ensure this redevelopment project becomes a reality – but it is important that the local clubs and organisations and the wider general public get involved in the consultation process.”
