Castlebar advance in All-Ireland women's golf series after pulsating win

Castlebar Golf Club has advanced to the semi-finals of GUI All-Ireland Women's Junior Cup following a pulsating 3-2 triumph over Royal Tara at Knightsbrook Golf Club, Trim, Co. Meath, this evening.

A dramatic win by Sarah Prendergast over Ann Gorman on the 20th hole, combined with Carmel Moran's 3 & 2 success over Angela Reilly in the final match, sealed the team's place in the penultimate round after Sheila Baynes scored an early 4 & 3 against Terrie Cahill.

It was a magnificent turnabout by Castlebar after looking to be in real trouble at one stage.

But Breda Mulroy's charges displayed immense steel and character to secure their hard-earned passage to the last four.

In the other two matches, Lorna Irwin lost by one hole to Katie Daly while Breege Finnerty went under to Emily Davis.

Castlebar will meet Royal Portrush in their semi-final tomorrow morning.
