Mayo GAA ratify Under 20 and minor managers for another year
MAYO Under 20 football manager Maurice Sheridan and minor manager Sean Deane have been ratified for another year.
Mayo had mixed luck at minor level last year, Deane bringing them to an All-Ireland final which they lost Galway.
In what was a strange championship, Mayo had defeated Galway twice – including in the Connacht final – but it was at the third time of asking that Galway delivered in the All-Ireland final, which was played in Dr. Hyde Park, Roscommon.
Meanwhile, the Mayo Under 20s reached a Connacht final under Sheridan but crashed to Sligo in the decider, the Yeats County winning their first ever provincial title at this level.
The need for a better liaison between the Under 20 and senior management was raised at last night's Mayo County Board meeting.
County chairman Seamus Tuohy said that following the appointment of Kevin McStay as senior manager, Liam McHale, who is part of McStay’s backroom team, will have responsibility for liaising with the Under 20 management.
Mr. Tuohy said it was something the new Mayo manager felt was important just as much for the Under 20 team as the senior team.
