Request to address council on west Mayo pedestrian black spot

MANY people in Newport have been calling for action to make the Georges Street corner in the town safer for pedestrians, young and old.

It is a road safety black spot, used by many children attending the local national school.

The issue is on the agenda for the monthly Westport-Belmullet Municipal District meeting this week (Wednesday).

Elected members have been asked to consider a request from a Newport group to attend an upcoming municipal meeting to discuss what could be done and what plans could be put in place for the safety of their children in Georges Street.
