Breaffy rounders make more history
SUCCESS breeds success and following a maiden All-Ireland senior title for the ladies team last year, they went and did it again last month.
Fresh of their first ever national title in June 2021 when winning their Covid-delayed 2020 final – they were then beaten in the 2021 semi-final later that year - they were crowned champions once again on Sunday, September 18 when they defeated Carlow side Bagenalstown 28-9 to win their second All-Ireland title. The victory is all the more impressive given that they won all ten of their games this season.
This year's title has seen five of their side awarded All-Stars: Paula Doherty (third base), Gráinne Fahey (first base), Gráinne Gavin (short stop), Majella Haverty (outfielder), and Michelle Hopkins (pitcher).
It brings their total number of All-Stars to nine, with Olivia Tolster (2021, 2018) and Katie Kenny (2018) previous winners and Fahey picking up her second, having won in 2021.
The success did not stop their as Breaffy's Under 15 boys won gold at the National Community Games Final a week later. The Under 13s took home the bronze.
Anyone interested in starting or joining Breaffy Rounders, the club will be holding 'come try me' sessions for Seniors over the next few Sundays from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
This will give anyone thinking about playing in 2023 an idea about the game and see if it's for you. These sessions will be casual and all in good fun. The club has adult teams in ladies, men's and mixed.
