Work starts on Mayo island's new helipad

WORK has started on building a new helipad on Inishturk.

Rock breaking is currently underway at the site, which is just down from the island's community centre.

It is expected that construction of the project will be complete in November.

Last July, funding of €357,000 was allocated for the new helipad, which will be a vital resource for the Irish Coast Guard.

Mayo County Council are also providing funding towards the project.
