Mayo nursing home hosts open day

A FUN day was had by all those who attended the recent open day in Abbeybreaffy Nursing Home (Brookhaven Healthcare) in Castlebar.

Abbeybreaffy put on a splendid afternoon of entertainment, dancing and music. The day began with Mass by Fr. Peter Sucliffe, before an Irish dance performance by the Cresham Academy of Irish Dancing. Further entertainment was provided by Orla Gallagher, a live music concert by Sean Keane, Katie O'Connor, Carla Vedres and Siobhán Lynch as well as traditional music by Shauna Bolger, Mark Bolger, Cliodhna Hennessey and Aoife Hennessey.

Selda Babu, person in charge of Abbeybreaffy Nursing Home, said: “The residents and staff in Abbeybreaffy wanted to thank the local community, local hospitals, GPs, neighbours, families and friends for all their support over the past two years.

“Like any other nursing home, Abbeybreaffy has had a difficult time during the Covid pandemic, what with limitations to visiting, vaccinations and a small Covid outbreak within the nursing home. Abbeybreaffy wanted to celebrate a return to near normal life for residents again. To be able to have family and friends return, have fun and laugh, to see our residents happy was most heartening.

“Hopefully going forward, we can have more fun days and we look forward to meeting friends and families visiting in the future.”
